Jenny Kellogg hired at Eastern Washington University

Jenny Kellogg, MM Jazz Studies trombonist, has just been appointed to the faculty of Eastern Washington University as trombone professor and director of the EWU jazz program. She recently completed her MM jazz degree as a student of Steve Wiest, Jan Kagarice, and arranger Richard DeRosa. For the past two years she has held the solo jazz chair of the One O'Clock Lab Band.

Nick Schroeder hired at Hutchinson Community College

Nick Schroeder (B.M. in Jazz Studies, 2005) has been hired as the Coordinator of the Jazz Program at Hutchinson Community College effective in August 2013. He will direct the two big bands, jazz combo, and teach jazz courses and private lessons at Kansas's premier two-year school.

Ben Haugland joins the Texas Tech University faculty

Pianist Dr. Benjamin Haugland, formerly a master’s student at UNT and a member of the One O’Clock Lab Band, was recently hired by Texas Tech University as the Assistant Director of Jazz Studies beginning in the fall of 2013. The position will focus on teaching jazz history, directing large and small jazz ensembles, and teaching applied jazz piano. Ben holds the Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado, the Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, and the Doctor of Arts in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado.

The name of our university

Many people associated with our program (myself included) have a lot of affection for the former name of our university, North Texas State University. But the university changed its name to the University of North Texas in 1988. I posted this so that students who see references to the former name and search on it might be more likely to be directed here. --John Murphy
