Stefan Karlsson traveled to Bangkok and Shanghai with the Eddie Gomez Trio, with Billy Drummond on drums, to appear at the Thailand International Jazz Conference at Mahidol University on February 1-3, 2013.

Stefan also played at the Jz jazzclub in Shanghai.

In Stefan's words:

We did a clinic for all of the registered conference attendees (I think around 2000 people). We adjudicated two jazz competitions (one for under 21 years of age and one for the open category- 21 or over). Peter Bernstein joined us for the "open" competition.

We performed our featured trio concert on Saturday night of that weekend. Prof. Darin Pantoomkomol of Mahidol University told me that they had over 2000 people there.

We left for Shanghai on Feb. 4 and performed two nights (Feb. 5 and 6) at JZ Club with Li Xiaochuan [trumpet, UNT MM Jazz Studies graduate]. We had two great nights nights with a full house. We also did a recording on Thursday Feb 7 with Li Xiaochuan. The CD will be released fairly soon.

The under 21 finalists with us and Dr. Alexander Paufler, CEO & President of Mercedes-Benz Thailand. Alexander is the main sponsor of the festival.

The open competition with the trio, Peter Bernstein and the Dean of the Mahidol College of Music, Dr. Sugree Charoensook. The 3rd student from the left is pianist Sopon Suwannakit who hopefully will be here this fall for his master's.
